When Tallulah first arrived at our shelter in February 2024 we saw the bright, goofy spark in her right away. She had a love for tennis balls and a heart full of potential. But shelter life wasn’t easy on her.

Like many high-energy dogs, Tallulah struggled in the kennel. She dealt with stress, potty training challenges, and a kind of restlessness that just didn’t go away with walks and toys. She needed more than just a break from the shelter. She needed a total reset. That came when Tallulah got the chance to go into a long-term foster home, and everything changed for the better.

Why Foster Care Matters

Foster homes offer more than just four walls and a roof — they provide routine, comfort, and real-life experiences that shelters simply can not replicate. For animals facing shelter stress, extended stays, or behavioral setbacks, fostering can mean the difference between being adoptable and being forgotten.

Tallulah’s foster family gave her the space and the structure she needed to decompress, helping her settle into a more balanced, confident version of herself. After several months away, she returned to the shelter still the same sweet goof, but now with better skills, routines, and readiness for a forever home.

And no one tells her story better than the foster family themselves.

From Her Foster Family:

Tula is READY for adoption and looking for her forever home!!

Hi there, meet Tallulah!
Tallulah aka Tuls aka TulaTime aka TulaToes… is a snuggle bug, a blooper reel, a friend. She’s always there to listen and to make you laugh. Tula has worked every single day to be the best dog you never knew you needed by your side.

The Albrecht Center gave Tula an incredible home. When we met her, she was kisses and love and happiness rolled up into one. How had all these wiggles and wags not gone home?? We got to know her, threw the ball around, fell in love, and went home to dog-proof the house for foster.

Things we know:

  • Balls.
  • Tula <3 Water
  • Looks really good in purple
  • Loves to laugh, lives to love?
  • Is really cool about bath time
  • Is great on loose leash with her harness
  • Loves walks. L-O-V-E looooove.
  • She loves to fetch. Low key, fast, catch, chase. Fetch is the best.
  • Peanut butter. She adores it.
  • Loves to cuddle
  • Loves pupsicles (yep, you read that right)
  • Plans her day around making you laugh
  • Plans her day around giving you a hug
  • Can have a hilariously short attention span
  • Has a really fuzzy face

When Tula first came home, she had tons of energy and excitement to work out of her system. Nothing came between her and a toy! She likes treats, but nothing in comparison to a squeaky toy.

Tula and her toys:

  • Give more toys than she can count (2)
  • Give boring toys
  • Trade toys
  • Time for play and time for settle
  • Stand up and say “all done, bye Tula!” and go get yourself a snack
  • Lots of leisurely walks
  • Lots of interesting food puzzles
  • Walk away if she’s too excited and come back when there’s four on the floor (paws)

We loved having her in our home. Tula learned how to trade and drop toys, snuggle up, and hang out! Tula loves people, doesn’t mind noises like thunder or fireworks, but can get scared if she hears yelling.

Tula Tips:

  • She’ll do best with regular walks and a routine
  • She loves her crate for treats, naps, and sleep, so that’s a good snuggly place for her
  • She can be FAST when she runs, so might not be an ideal match for young kiddos
  • Bigger/louder/energetic dogs are often too much for her, but she’s met a few calm dogs
  • SHE GETS MOTION SICK. A travel crate, blankets, and frequent stops are best
  • She LOVES learning! She knows touch, sit, stay, down, wait, let’s go, settle, crate, on your bed, drop it, leave it

Tula had a lot of “firsts” with us. Each one was very special. We watched her struggle to figure it all out and always keep trying. Whoever finds this girl is going to have a lot of “firsts” too. And those will be a different sort of special, because that will be her forever family. If anyone deserves it, it’s Tula.

We love this goof from the bottom of our hearts. You’ll see some of her pictures and get to enjoy a fraction of what we did, because most of what we saw was never captured on a camera. It is bittersweet when we remember some of her challenges in the early days. But if you could see this wagging wiggling floppy happy hound, you’d understand that the hard stuff never meant anything to her.

It’s been an honor to have her stay with us. The rest of her book will be written with you. Thank you for reading, come get to know Tula!

Foster care gave Tallulah a second chance.

We are open Monday-Friday 11am-4:30pm and Wednesdays/Saturdays until 6pm at 199 Willow Run Rd in Aiken SC.
