Walking and Raising
Countdown check - 18 days 'til Barkaritaville and the Twilight Walk for Animals!
Along with the time between now and Barkaritaville, the days are getting shorter too.
Tomorrow is the first day of autumn and while the weather is still rather warm, there have definitely been some cool, crisp mornings and very refreshing breezes the last couple of weeks.
Perfect weather to walk with your dog. Better yet, perfect weather to walk FOR a dog. Or a cat, bird, horse, guinea pig or fish.
We'll do just that at sunset on October 10th. We'll walk for the animals we love, have loved, and animals that have yet to be loved.
The Twilight Walk for Animals started in 2013 as part of a memorial fundraiser to honor a special SPCA volunteer who left this world much too soon.
90 individuals and 25 teams walked in Lana Dyer's memory as well as in memory of beloved pets and shelter animals, raising awareness and more than $16,000 for our cause.
Last year, the Twilight Walk again helped us raise money for the animals in our care. There were 21 teams and 111 individuals raising money for the animals totaling over $19,000!
So far this year, we have 14 teams and 56 individuals registered to raise money for the animals. Over $5,000 has been raised so far.
Auto Tech's "Hike a Leg for the Hounds" team is raising money because they believe "every 4-legged friend should be given a chance to hike their leg on car tires." This car-savvy group of animal lovers has raised over $2,000 so far.
Kim Coleman's Hawaiian themed "Iwannawalkadoggi" team was our largest team last year and is on track to accomplish the same this year. Their aloha spirit has helped them raise $1,200 so far this year.
Donate if you can or consider joining us. It's not too late to join a team or start your own. We're happy to help if you have any trouble, just give us a call at 803-648-6863 or email Amy at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Once you are established as a team member or team leader, start sharing your fundraising goal with your friends and family. Let them know about the cause and why it's important to you.
They can donate online or directly to you.
Raise just $25 to earn free admission to Barkaritaville. Raise $50 to earn free admission and a cool, color-changing souvenir cup. Raise $100 or more for free admission, the cool cup and a Barkaritaville t-shirt!
Top prizes for the Twilight Walk go to the top fundraising individual and the team leader who manages to recruit the biggest team. The top individual will be awarded a $500 Visa gift card and the top team leader wins a mountain vacation.
There are other fun prizes along the way if you join the Barkaritaville and the Twilight Walk for Animals Facebook group. It's a great place to encourage your fellow team members and challenge other teams.
And if you want to help raise money but you're not able to participate in the walk itself, don't worry! Participation in the fundraiser does not require you to participate in the walk on October 10th. Just consider yourself a "virtual walker" by raising funds for the animals and joining the walk in spirit.
However you decide to help, we hope you'll join us on October 10th for food, drinks, live music and lots of tail-wagging fun.
$25 advance tickets are available by clicking here or at 199 Willow Run Road, Aiken SC. Tickets will be available at the gate for $30. Ticket price includes all food & drink available at the themed booths, live music all night plus a super cool silicone cause bracelet to prove you were there.
