Barkaritaville Last Call: Come One, Come All!

Are you free Saturday night? Do you enjoy food, drinks, and live music? Are you an animal lover? If this is you, we have your Saturday night in the doggie bag.

If you don't already have one, (and why not?!) your Barkaritaville ticket is waiting for you right here or at 199 Willow Run Road, Aiken SC.

Tickets are $25 in advance or $30 at the door. I know, compared to some other events in the area, that seems like a lot of money. But let me tell you what that money includes for you, what it provides for the SPCA, and how you can even get in free.

The event is this Saturday, October 10th from 6-10pm. Your ticket purchase includes admission to Barkaritaville: our very own private, parking lot island full of fun, themed booths serving all the tasty, bite-sized savories, sweets and drinks you can consume; a cool cause bracelet to prove you were there, and live music all night. And you can even bring your dog (leashed, please)!

I don't have a menu to show you, but to give you an idea, each food & drink complements the themed booth serving it, and these are just a few of the registered themes:  The 50s, Oktoberfest, Day of the Dead, Birthday Party, Wizard of Oz, Nightmare before Christmas, La Casa Del Perro by Hilton, Mardi Gras, The Vice Squad, 101 Dalmatians and Under the Sea.

I don't think you'll have a hard time finding something to satisfy your cravings with those options, but if you'd rather stick to the basics, we'll also have burgers & hot dogs on the grill available to purchase and a cash bar offering full-size beer, wine and Barkaritas in souvenir color-changing cups!

Our band for the night is local favorite Lo Down Brown. Band members Darrell Rains, Sherry Iles, Mark Ferriter and Gary Shepard play a wide variety of music including classic and current rock, beach, dance, R&B, pop, jazz and country. They've played locally at Red Pepper, Hotel Aiken, City Billiards, Playoff's, Aiken Brewing Company, Aiken Playhouse and The Etherredge Center. We're sure they'll keep the crowd dancing all night long.

WAGT NBC 26's weekend anchor Nickelle Smith and meteorologist Micah Rumsey will emcee the event and announce prizes for the sidewalk chalk competition, the Twilight Walk and the Barkaritaville booth participants.

As for what your ticket price provides for the SPCA, here's some information to chew on: The SPCA Albrecht Center for Animal Welfare is a private, non-profit 501(c)(3) organization. We operate a limited-admission animal shelter, low-cost vet clinic and three thrift shops.

Our funding is generated through private donors (citizens like you), fees for our services, fundraisers and events, retail sales, and occasional grants. We receive no state or federal funding nor any regular funding from the ASPCA or the Humane Society of the United States.

Your money, whether in the form of a ticket price, a retail sale, a fee or a donation, helps us provide shelter, food, veterinary care and eventually a home for over 800 companion animals each year, in addition to providing affordable veterinary care to pets owned by people in our community.

If you'd still rather get in free, join the Twilight Walk for Animals! It's not too late to register and raise money for our cause. Raise just $25 to gain admission and compete to win even more prizes. Go to LetLoveLive.org for information and instructions. Please note that a $25 donation to your Twilight Walk fundraiser does grant you admission, but your donor will still need to purchase a ticket if they wish to attend the event.

Barkaritaville & the Twilight Walk for Animals is our biggest fundraising event of the year, so I hope you will see the true value in the price of a ticket and join us Saturday night for a tail-waggin' good time. And if you can't make it, please consider making a small donation to our cause. Our staff, volunteers and animals thank you.
