Kittens & Cupcakes
Saturday marked our second annual Kitten Shower and Supply drive and it was as much of a success as last year, if not more. Thank you so much to everyone who joined us Saturday and to everyone not able to make it in person, but who sent gifts anyway. We are so blessed to have so many generous supporters!
People came prepared for kitten cuddles carrying bags of kitten chow, cans of replacement milk, bottles, wet food, food bowls, blankets, toys, heating pads, baby wipes, gift cards, cash, checks, and even greeting cards with hand-written messages like these: "To the kitties - welcome to the world!", "Here's hoping your life is as sweet as this milk is nourishing", and from a perhaps disgruntled child, "Here's some gifts for all the cute kittens my mom won't let me have."
We had lots of adorable kittens waiting to be loved, and even a litter with a mother cat who seemed grateful for the break. She enjoyed some petting and attention as well.
SPCA volunteers were on hand to help with kitten handling and make sure hands were sanitized before, between and after each kitten encounter.
Volunteers also responded to the request for shower snacks with all sorts of cakes, sandwiches, finger foods, chips, cheese, fruit and cupcakes. Lots and lots and lots of cupcakes. We may need to consider renaming the event "Kittens & Cupcakes" because there were so many and really, who doesn't want to come to that party?!
Two kittens were adopted during the event and many more will be finding homes soon. We have more than 50 kittens right now, eight weeks old and younger who will make their way to the adoption floor as soon as they are old enough and vaccinated. One (or more) could be yours!
The adoption fee for kittens is $75 and that includes spay/neuter surgery (to be performed in our Veterinary Care Center as soon as the kitten reaches the required age and weight) up-to-date vaccinations, testing and a microchip. You really can't beat that deal, unless of course you adopt an adult cat.
Adult cats are available for a reduced $25 adoption fee right now. That fee also includes their spay/neuter surgery, current vaccinations and a microchip. We have some very sweet senior cats in need of loving, quiet homes, but also plenty of adult cats who are one, two, three years old and younger, so they have plenty of kitten playfulness but have also learned the value of a long cat nap.
You really should come see them all and meet a few in person. Kitten season continues through the summer and we're already past our fill of felines. Each kitten or cat that is adopted opens space so we can take in and save one more, and there are always, always more. We're located at 199 Willow Run Rd, in Aiken SC. Adoption hours are Mon-Sat 11:00 am until 4:30 pm.
We may even have a few cupcakes left if you hurry!
