Did you receive a fresh, new, 2016 calendar over the holiday season? Looking at a lot of blank spaces on your digital agenda? Get your pen or keyboard ready because I have some 2016 dates that you will most definitely want to remember!
Let's start with February, which is Spay/Neuter Awareness Month. We'll be displaying our "yard litter" signs in a different way this year, so keep your eyes open for them soon.
February 23rd is World Spay Day and we'll be celebrating and raising money for our affordable spay/neuter program with a Spayghetti Dinner, right here at the SPCA Albrecht Center. Tickets are just $8 and include a plate of spaghetti, salad and a drink. Dine in or take-out. 6 - 9pm.
On February 13th we'll hold a Pet Health Fair. No cotton candy or Ferris wheels, but instead we'll have low-cost vaccinations for your pets, microchips and City of Aiken pet registration forms. Clinic staff and animal control officers will be on hand to answer questions. 10am - 2pm.
March 6th is time to once again celebrate our amazing team of volunteers and award some of the super stars of the team as voted on by their fellow volunteers. Serena's Star 2016 will also be awarded to an outstanding pet who is making a difference in our community. Look for a nomination form at LetLoveLive.org.
Later in March, on the 20th, Barn Tour is back! This year we'll once again feature some of the amazing barns and properties in beautiful Three Runs Plantation, a stunning equestrian community in Aiken. Tickets will be on sale soon.
In April, get your walking shoes and leashes ready for the SPCA Walk for Animals on April 17th! Register to walk with us and gather sponsors to raise money for the homeless pets in our shelter. More information coming soon. Immediately after the walk, we'll wind down and enjoy some food & drinks at our first Yappy Hour of the season. The dog park will be open and we'll have live music on the patio.
Our regular Yappy Hour season starts May 4th and runs every first Wednesday through September, 6 - 9pm on our patio. Live music, open dog park, cash bar and food available. Don't miss the fun! Yappy Hour dates are May 4, June 1, July 6, August 3 and September 7.
Also in May we'll hold our second annual Kitten Shower and Supply Drive. Help us gather supplies for all of the kittens we see in the spring and summer and join us for a drop-in shower on May 14th from 12 - 3pm for kitten cuddles, shower snacks and fun. We'll have a wish list available on our website soon.
Summer will be here before you know it and along with it our Dog Washes will be operating on the second Saturday of each month starting May 14th and running through September 10th. Employees from the Augusta Elanco Technology Center spent their Day of Service with us in October and built some brand new dog washing stations! Dog Wash dates are May 14, June 11, July 9, August 13 and September 10.
After the dog days of summer, it's time to get ready for another tail-waggin' good time at our 4th annual Barkaritaville party in the parking lot! Register a free themed booth to compete for prizes or purchase tickets to enjoy all of the fun food, drinks and live music all night long. Barkaritaville will be held Saturday, October 22nd from 6-9pm.
