The SPCA Albrecht Center for Animal Welfare is happy to announce participation in the nationwide “Empty the Shelters” event, sponsored by the Bissell Pet Foundation. This event started December 1st and runs through December 16th, giving you plenty of time to bring a new furry family member home for the holidays!

And to make this event extra special, adoption fees are waived!* That’s a $0 adoption fee to bring so much love and joy into your life! As always, all pets are spayed or neutered, microchipped, and up-to-date on their vaccinations, and all adoptions are subject to standard application and approval processes.

Empty the Shelters is about more than just adoptions; it’s about saving lives—two lives, actually. When you adopt a pet from a shelter, you’re not just giving that animal a home; you’re also making space for another pet to be rescued and rehomed. You can see pictures of the available pets at LetLoveLive.org/adopt.

Not ready to adopt? That’s okay. You can still bring that same joy and love into your home for this festive season and help a shelter pet, too. From December 18th through January 3rd, the SPCA will be holding ‘Home for the Holidays”, a fostering opportunity just for the holiday season.

Open your home to a homeless dog or cat so they can experience the joy and love of this festive season and get a break from shelter life. The SPCA will provide all of the necessary supplies, including food. You provide the home and love.

While the pet is temporarily part of your family, take pictures or video and share them with your friends and family. These will also help the pet be adopted faster after they are returned, by showing potential adopters their true personality outside of the shelter. You can also take dogs on rides and walks with you to introduce them to people and promote them for adoption.

Stay tuned to the SPCA Albrecht Center’s Facebook page for more information about the Home for the Holidays foster program, including requirements and pickup times.

Imagine a shelter animal waking up on Christmas morning in a loving home, surrounded by warmth and affection. That’s the gift you give when you adopt or foster for the holiday season.

Not able to adopter or foster? This giving season is a great time to make a donation to help the shelter continue their lifesaving mission. Visit LetLoveLive.org/holidaygift to contribute to this year’s Forever Home for the Holidays donation campaign. Extend your generosity as a holiday gift that keeps on giving and let this be a season where no animal feels forgotten. Your gift can change lives.

Please join the SPCA Albrecht Center and the Bissell Pet Foundation in making a difference in the lives of these wonderful animals. Even if you’re not looking to adopt, you can support the event and the SPCA’s mission by spreading the word about the adoption event, holiday foster program, and donation needs. Every effort counts and your support, in any form, is appreciated.🐾

The SPCA Albrecht Center is located at 199 Willow Run Rd in Aiken, SC and is open Monday through Saturday from 11 am to 4:30 pm.

*Puppies are not included in this special event; standard adoption fees apply.
