Barkin' 'Bout Barkaritaville

Barkaritaville and the Twilight Walk for Animals is only 32 days away, so over the next few weeks, this column will be devoted to filling you in on the who, what, when, where, why you should be there and how to join the fun.

If you just want to have a good time and join the party, tickets are available at the SPCA, 199 Willow Run Road in Aiken or online at www.LetLoveLive.org. They're just $25 in advance or $30 at the gate. Kids 12 and under are admitted for just $10 and leashed dogs get in FREE with their ticketed people!

Your ticket price not only gets you in to Barkaritaville to enjoy all of the themed food, beverages and live music by Lo Down Brown, but also a nifty silicone cause bracelet to wear during and after the party. You'll also get a set of voting tokens to vote on your favorite booths, food and drinks.

Would you rather get in free? You have a couple of options:

1. Register to host a FREE themed booth. Bring your culinary or drink-mixing skills to our party and not only will you and a friend get admission (with that awesome cause bracelet), but also two souvenir t-shirts and two very cool color-changing Barkaritaville cups! You could win gift cards or a vacation in Belize for two!

We'll provide the booth space, paper trays for food, small cups for drinks and all the sporks and napkins you'll need. You provide whatever else you need, table(s), chairs, a tent and decor for your chosen theme. Rumor has it we already have some fun booth themes registered including a 50's booth, the Wizard of Oz, and an Under the Sea theme.

Contact Amy Banton, our Community Outreach Director to claim your space. Hurry, spaces are limited and they're filling up fast! 803-648-6863 or outreach@letlovelive.org.

2. Join the Twilight Walk! This is the FUNdraiser part. Join a team or start your own. Recruit friends to join you, and solicit donors to raise as much money as you possibly can for the animals in our care. Then, join us at sunset on October 10th to follow the luminary lit, one mile trail that ends at the party where you can celebrate your victory. You must raise at least $25 for admission to Barkaritaville.

Bring your dog to walk with you, walk alone or with your team. Or, don't walk at all! You do not have to walk or even be present at Barkaritaville to participate in the fundraiser, and you are still eligible for prizes.

Prizes? Yes, prizes! Raise the most money as a team to win a WingPlace gift card for 100 wings to celebrate your amazing team effort! I hear they have some pretty good fries and drinks too.

Raise the most money as an individual to win a $500 Visa gift card! Imagine the awesome celebrating you could do with a spare $500. Or a shopping spree! I hear there are some thrift shops nearby with really neat items and all of their proceeds benefit a local animal shelter. Just saying...

Gather lots and lots of fellow walkers to form the BIGGEST team and the team captain wins a mountain cabin vacation in NC! Just in time for the beautiful fall colors too.

Register for the Twilight Walk for Animals at www.LetLoveLive.org or contact Amy Banton at 803-648-6863 or outreach@letlovelive.org.

And there's one final option for kids to win prizes and gain entry to the party: our Chalk Art Competition is open to creative concrete chalk artists age 5-18. We'll provide a 4ft x 4ft patio square and plenty of colored sidewalk chalk.

Prizes will be awarded in three age groups. Registration for the Chalk Art Competition is $10 but it includes Barkaritaville admission (and a cool, rainbow cause bracelet) with a paying adult. Spaces are limited so register soon at www.LetLoveLive.org or call Amy at 803-648-6863.

You don't want to miss this party! Visit www.LetLoveLive.org for even more details, all the ways to participate and see photos from last year.
